Waters on the lake are typically flat and calm, which welcomes a variety of boats and recreational boating activities such as water-skiing and fishing.
Boating on Shasta Lake
There are a number of different types of boats available for rent and personal use on Shasta Lake. Some types of rentals include, houseboats, pontoon boats, ski boats, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. While Shasta Lake supports a wide variety of boating activities, it is a top spot for houseboats. In fact, the lake is listed among the top 10 in the US for houseboats due to its calm waters and scenic views. Patio boats, also called pontoon boats, are popular on Shasta Lake for a relaxed boating experience. They are also a top choice for sunset cruises or watching the stars. Water skiing, a popular pastime on the lake, is made available through ski boats that can be rented or docked at the marina. Along with motorized watercraft, Shasta Lake supports human-powered boating activities, too. With access to trail heads from the water and numerous secluded coves for mooring, the lake supports canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. These boats can be stored or rented at the lake’s marinas for convenience.
Reservations and Availability
Regardless of your preferred boating activity, be sure to check with the marina first to check availability and requirements. Some boats can only be rented or stored at the marina with the rental of a houseboat for the same time period. Reservations are generally required, and during peak boating season should be made well in advance. Members of the public can also obtain a variety of boating passes such as an annual boat ramp pass or launch pass, seasonal or annual boating pass, and a launch ramp pass. Annual boating passes are available through the Shasta Recreation Company. A pass can only be used at a public boat ramp. Although there are also privately-owned launch ramps on the lake, they are not available for use through a boat pass.
About Shasta Lake
Shasta Lake, which is designated as a national recreation area, is a top destination within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. It is approximately 20 minutes from Redding. The lake offers unparalleled natural beauty with approximately 370 miles of forested shoreline. While its pristine waters attract boaters of all kinds, the lake also has many other natural wonders. This includes the Shasta Caverns, which are a series of caves located on the McCloud branch of the lake. Guided tours are available for the caverns, which are filled with stalagmite and stalactite formations. The lake also has special events and holiday parties, such as an annual July 4th celebration. It is well-stocked with Chinook salmon, trout, catfish, and crappie. Bass fishing tournaments are held each year in the spring and fall.
